One of the great things about having a blog is that you can have great readers that are really fun to get to know. Susanne Myers is one of those, and she creates excellent content. So, I was thrilled when she read my post from January 1 and asked to guest post.

Her post below is excellent -- but there is something even better here. I published my other post on the 1st of January (3 days ago). On the morning of the 3rd of January (yesterday), Suzanne had an excellent guest post written and in my inbox. She even put my affiliate links to her products in the post (her stuff is really good by the way).

Anyway, the lesson here (for me and for you) is to take action. Be like Susanne. Whatever it is, just do it.

Growing Your Affiliate Niche Site in 2011

By Susanne Myers – www.AffiliateTreasureChest.com

I loved Mark’s post on online business resolutions and how we often focus on the wrong thing. His analogy that internet marketing can be a lot like losing weight was spot on and I thought I’d take it one step further today and give you some tips on how to grow your affiliate niche site this coming year, focusing on the important things like providing a lot of value and serving your readers.

Adding Content

A great place to start is by adding more content to your site on a regular basis. I find that my larger sites not only get the most traffic, they are also talked about more, get more comments and my lists are growing faster. There’s a bit of a snowball effect going on here… the more people know about your site the more talk about it across social media sites, on their blogs etc.

Does this mean you should get into autoblogging or throw a bunch of rehashed junk on your site? Of course not! What it does mean is that you should take some time out each week (or ideally several times per week) to write some good content and share some interesting tips with your readers. It helps to have a schedule for this. Take a few minutes to figure out how often you can realistically add new content to your site each week. Then create a content schedule and plan out the first few posts or articles. Then make it a priority to get that content added and watch your site and your traffic grow.

Building Your List

Next, I suggest you spend some time building your lists. Lists allow you to get back in touch with your readers regularly and provide them with even more value. Over time you build a mutually beneficial relationship with them and your readers will quickly learn that they can trust your advice and the offers you present to them.

While money should never be the main focus or goal when you’re building your business, it does come in handy, and even in 2011, the money is still in the list. Let’s make this the year we really grow those lists.

Start by taking a look at your lists and optin boxes. Are there things you can improve? Are you split testing your optin forms to find the ones that convert best? Are you following up regularly with your readers? Are you sticking a good balance between providing them with valuable content and making offers?

Expanding Your Reach

Last but not least it’s time to expand your reach. Sure, blogging regularly will get you some traffic and keeping in touch with your list will continue to send them back to your site, but unless you also spend some time marketing your site, you’re missing out on a big chunk of traffic. Here are some things you may want to start doing this year:

Guest Blogging

Write a few guest blog posts for other blogs in your market place. Email the blog owners and ask them if they would consider publishing them on their sites. You can quickly and easy expand your reach with just a few guest posts.

Article Marketing

Article Marketing still works. Get in the habit of writing and submitting articles regularly. I like Mark’s recommendation or Automatic Article Submitter to help you spread your articles far and wide. Again, this is about capturing and audience you wouldn’t have access to otherwise.

Link Building

Both article marketing and guest blogging are excellent ways to build links. Other things you can do are inviting readers to link to you, create “link magnets” (exceptionally good content that people will link to automatically), participating in social media, commenting on other blogs etc. Make an effort to build some links to your site on a regular basis.

If you are ready to learn more about this, take a look at my link building program where I share what I’m doing to build thousands of links that help me improve my search engine rankings and send me traffic.

Viral Reports

Combine some of your articles and guest posts and even your own blog posts into short reports that you can then give away. You could also write something completely new, but I find it more effective to reuse my content this way. When you’re done, post the report on your blog, submit it to ebook sites and of course send it out to your list. Don’t forget to invite readers to share it with friends.

You can make your reports spread even further if you make them brandable. If you have your own products, you can allow people to “brand” the links in the report with their affiliate links. If you don’t have your own products and are strictly an affiliate marketer, allow them to brand some of the links in the report and keep some in there with your own affiliate links. Don’t forget to mention your name and your main site in there as well and link to some of your pages or blog posts were appropriate.

Here’s an example of a brandable report I’ve created recently with my friend Nicole Dean

http://www.brandablestuff.com/tools/weight-loss-blog/

Keep in mind that it’s all about sharing useful information that will help people.

Podcasting

Now here’s something I haven’t done but Mark does really well and I think it has helped him not only extend his reach, but also contributes to his expert status. Take a look at his podcast here:

http://www.masonworld.com/category/podcast/

Next I want you to consider creating and recording your own podcast. It’s definitely something I’m considering doing this year.

For now, keep adding content to your site regularly, build that list and then do something each and every week to expand your reach and watch your affiliate business grow in 2011

And now I’d like to invite you to take a look at my affiliate marketing blog at www.AffiliateTreasureChest.com . While you’re there, take a moment to sign up for regular email updates so you’ll never miss a thing.

And yes, I am taking my own advice and will be providing lots of great content on the blog throughout 2011. Let’s make this the most profitable year yet!

The other thing I think you need to do is you need to get as much software as you can to automate tasks. Now, I’ve got some recommendations here and these are products that I actually use.

If you’re going to submit your websites to directories I recommend Deep Linker Pro from Josh Spaulding. It automatically submits websites to directories.

If you’re going to submit articles to article directories I recommend Automatic Article Submitter from Millan, who lives in eastern Eupore and I’m not going to say his last name, but it begins with K.

There’s a really good social bookmarking application out there called Bookmarking Demon.

If you want to automate the setup of blogs, if you have a business model where you need to run many blogs, I recommend Firepow from Andrew Hanson.

If you are going to try and get some automated backlinking going one of the products I recommend is One-Way-Links from Jon Leger.

There are many other products that compete in these spaces and a lot of them are really good. These are just the ones that I use. The point is I definitely recommend that you go out and you invest in software.

In fact, I’d go so far as to say that one of the highest leverage investments that you can make is software to automate your business. It’s right up there with outsourcing and just the most critical business knowledge, learning, course work that you can get. So, definitely look into software to automate your business.

This has been another post in our Part-Time Internet Business Series at MasonWorld.com, where we build successful internet businesses one night at a time.

I do a lot of article marketing under about 15 different pseudonyms in 50 different niches. For me, article marketing is a very effective way to get backlinks and direct traffic – especially since it is relatively easy to outsource. Heck, I even once showed you how I got traffic to something as bizarre a as site about chicken coops.

Anyway, I am actually on an airplane bound for Asia at the moment, so I thought I would throw down a couple of Article Marketing tips:

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when marketing with articles:

Write quality articles – Don’t write articles just for the sake of building incoming links. Sure this is a great reason to write and distribute articles but you also want your article to work extra hard for you. By writing a quality article you can get those incoming links but also get other business owners to place your articles on their websites (even more incoming links – not to mention traffic).

Be the Expert – When writing see yourself as the expert. You chose this field and it’s your job to communicate your knowledge with your customers. Believe you’re the expert and let it show in your writing. Remember if you don’t class yourself as an expert in your field it’s unlikely anyone else will do it for you.

Write Author Bio’s that Sell – Many people may the mistake of writing the same mundane author bio “Mary Sweet is the owner of a website called maryswebsite.com and enjoys writing” – Don’t waste that valuable real estate at the end of your articles. If you’ve written a good article the reader will look at the author bio and if intrigued will click over to learn more.

Now, I learned about article marketing from Josh Spaulding. His ebook on article marketing (Article Marketing Domination) was one of the first information products that I ever bought, and it is still awesome today.

To get real bang for my buck in article marketing, I personally use Automatic Article Submitter (AAS). I think that AAS is the most cost-effective feature-packed submitter on the market, and my team uses AAS every day. I am still offering a cool bonus if you are in the market for something to make your article marketing life easy.

So there you have it – a few tips about Article Marketing.

Sometimes I read these sales letters for all of these internet marketing products (including my own) and I wonder how in the world these product authors became such instant successes. After all, the part of their story that you always hear about is the amazing profit part, right?

The truth is usually that these people fail a lot. Just like Thomas Edison did. Just like Michael Jordan did. Just like I do. (Don't you love the not-so-subtle comparison between me, great marketers and Thomas Edison?)

So, I thought it would be fun to tell you about a failed experiment of mine.

Michelle McPherson, Me and Chicken Coops.

Back in May, I mentioned that I was playing around with Automatic Article Submitter. In that article, I mentioned that I was lurking on Michelle's blog and decided to try a crazy experiment about Chicken Coops. Here is what I wrote:

About the same time I was playing with this software, I was also lurking around Michelle McPherson's blog reading about chicken coops. I liked that video so much that I decided it would be a perfect opportunity to test Automated Article Submitter.

So, I did some quick keyword research (I'm talking about like 5 minutes worth) and grabbed the domain www.buildmychickencoop.com.

OK -- I know you are laughing. I can hear you. Yes, I have a chicken coop blog. No, I do not know anything about chickens. Just hang on for a minute.

I asked one of the awesome guys that writes for me to write some quick Chicken Coop articles, and I threw up a WordPress blog. I then asked another VA to install Automatic Article Submitter (AAS) and submit some articles to directories.

Well, it's been many months since that post. So I thought you might want to hear about the less-than-spectacular results.

Article Marketing Was A Success

As far as getting traffic to websites, Article Marketing is a success. No surprise there.

In fact, some traffic continues to come in due to article marketing. There is no SE Traffic to speak of (I really did not set it up for that). The end result is that I sent 3500 visitors to this site and got about 378 hops. That is about 11% conversion. Not bad.

Unfortunately, there were only 9 order form impressions and no sales. This is completely unexpected since the product has a gravity of 69. Not sure what is up with that.

Well, live and learn.

Below are some stats screen shots for the record.

Love to hear what you think about all of this....here are some theories on why this "failed". What do you think:

Maybe the product sales page actually stinks and the gravity number is "misleading"

Maybe this article marketing traffic is not "buying traffic"

Maybe 378 visitors to the sales page is not enough to understand the real picture

Maybe this was all an evil plot by Michelle to distract me

Again, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Of course the bottom line is always to fail quickly and learn from your failures. Not sure what to learn here yet...

Regards,
Mark

Something is bugging me.

Basically, I just wanted to drop a quick note and apologize for my delay in finishing the Automatic Article Submitter tutorials. I promise I do plan to finish it. I had a couple of really upset readers that were frustrated that I have not been quicker to complete the series, and I wanted to apologize. I have a ton of great excuses that I won't bore you with -- except maybe for one.

One of the parts components of the AAS tutorial was to show how we could use Article Marketing to send traffic to a colon cleansing CPA offer. One possible side effect might be conversions of that offer, and I thought that would be a really cool result -- bum marketing in action. Whoo hoo. After all, if I could actually show you AAS making money, what better way to for you to get your money back from your investment?

Tutoral Problem: Yucky CPA Offer

So, I picked a "colon cleansing" CPA offer that I thought looked profitable. It paid out when customers ordered a free sample of a colon cleansing product, promising weight loss and all sorts of other benefits. In fact, it paid way too much. I looked into this a little, and realized that I have 2 basic problems with this sort of offer:

In general they make claims that are way too good to be true. Now, I am not saying that I have evidence that the offer that I was looking at was fraudulent in any way. It just felt too good to be true to me. Magic in a bottle. I general, these offers try to take advantage of peoples emotional weaknesses. I am not crazy about being part of that -- even if it pays $25 a lead or whatever.

In general, these offers rely on the fact that people will accidentally get suckered into the monthly continuity back end. There are lots of shady things going on with these offers. They are generally hard to cancel and sneaky about the signup process. Again, I am not speaking about the offer that I found -- I don't know much about it. Just generally speaking, these offers are sleazy.

Obviously, I did not think this through very well.

Go Directly To Jail - Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200

In fact consider what happened recently to an affiliate marketer in Illinois (Thanks to Michelle for bringing this to my attention):

In the third complaint filed today, Madigan sued Amirouche & Norton, LLC and Larby Amirouche, an affiliate marketer that uses Internet search engines, pop-up ads, Web sites, and advertising on social networking sites to drive Internet traffic to suppliers’ Web sites. Madigan’s complaint alleges that the marketer misleads consumers through false advertising and false endorsements. Affiliate marketers like Amirouche & Norton are generally paid by sellers for driving traffic to their sites. The affiliate marketers receive compensation when Internet users click-through to the sellers’ sites and commission for sales resulting from traffic that they route to the sellers’ site.

“We must hold these Internet scammers accountable for their role in a seedy marketing game that steers unsuspecting consumers to online schemes,” Madigan said. “We also need to send a clear message to other marketers and networks in the business of designing misleading, traffic enticing schemes.”

Madigan’s three suits ask the court to enter a permanent injunction barring the defendants from selling dietary supplements or continuing with misleading marketing schemes that impact Illinois consumers. The lawsuits also ask the court to order the defendants to pay restitution for consumers who have lost money and civil penalties of $50,000 for violating the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.

Scary, huh?

My Standard For Internet Marketing

I actually have a plan for my internet business documented. In the plan, I specifically mention that I want to stay clear of stuff like this. Here is an excerpt from my plan where I mention that my business "should not include things that I am embarrassed to talk about with my mother or my pastor".

Goal: Build a robust internet business

* The Internet Business will
o have integrity and service to others as its core principles.
o leverage my strengths, including content creation and people skills
o clear at least xxxxxx month.
o require no more than 10 hours per week to run (2 hours per day in the morning)
o leverage outsourcing and automation.
o be diversified to include affiliate marketing, contextual advertising, automated membership sites and information products.

* The Internet Business will not
o be extensively based on things that do not scale or outsource well (consulting, face to face sales, etc.)
o include things that I am embarrassed to talk about with my mother or my pastor.
o include many things that I do not enjoy

The Bottom Line:

The bottom line is that I don't want that sort of offer to be part of my core business. That is not what I am about. So, I need to retool the tutorial to change that. It will make me feel better.

So there you go -- one excuse of many. I will re-tool the experiment and continue with part four of the Automatic Article Submitter case study as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience. And oh yeah -- next podcast with Andrew Hansen interview is coming soon as well.

Remember what Setphen W. Vannoy, best-selling author and founder of Pathways to Leadership Inc. has to say:

"Integrity is how you act when no one is watching,
when no one knows what you're doing."

Greetings from the friendly skies.

Finally, after waiting much too long, American Airlines has introduced WiFi on their domestic flights through GoGoInFlight.com. Now, I don't actually know how long American has had this turned on (I think since March maybe). Since the economy turned down, I have been doing a lot less flying and a lot more WebEx. Still, I am really happy to see this new addition to American Airlines service.

Now, I can pay for WiFi in addition to airport tax, check baggage fees, and snack charges. They did give me free coffee at least. Actually, of the three "extra charge items" I am happy to pay the $12.95 for WiFi access. Next time you fly, you can try gogo promo code 115k175gogo -- it might get you a discount.

For you hard core internet marketers out there that smell an opportunity, I was not able to locate a gogoinflight affiliate program per se, but it looks like there are some reseller options for GoGoInFlight.

Anyway, I thought it was cool

Coming Soon On MasonWorld.com

It has been really busy in Texas -- but this week I plan on delivering you two things (possible three).

I owe you parts four and five of my Automatic Article Submitter tutorial. That has taken much longer than I thought it would -- simply because I took my eye off the ball. Sorry about that. I will be trying to get part 4 out this week.

I plan to put out episode 3 of the MasonWorld Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast this week as well. We will be continuing our discussion about the different internet business models that are available to you, and I have a special interview with Internet Guru Jon Leger as well as my first listener feedback (woo hoo).

Finally, I need to give you an update on my outsourcing strategy -- which I changed about 4 months ago. That new strategy is working like gang busters. If you are not outsourcing now, you need to listen to this audio. I am having a ton of success with this strategy, and you can too (no BS here -- this stuff works).

So -- a busy week planned.

Hope you have a great day!

Regards,
Mark

Hello!

This is the next video blog post in the video series on how to use Automatic Article Submitter. In the first post in this series, video one, I described an overview of this tutorial, and how we would use a bum marketing experiment to show the power of automatic article submitter.

Video 2a, which was released two weeks ago, I described the overview of that experiment and explained how you can use article marketing to drive traffic directly to a sales page with the goal of selling a product. This is an important idea, because article marketing can be used to drive traffic to almost any location for almost any purpose.

Last week, I released video 2b, where I described an easy but effective way to do keyword research in any niche. You can use this keyword research to form the basis for topics for your articles to be used with Automatic Article Submitter.

This is video three -- where I show how Automatic Article Submitter can take away the pain of directory registration. If you have ever used directory submission before and struggled with registration, you need to see this video.

Be sure and check out a special guest appearance on the video at the very end!

Enjoy a video 3, and have a fantastic day.

This is the next post in the series on how to use Automatic Article Submitter. In the first post in this series, video one, I described an overview of this tutorial, and how we would use a bum marketing experiment to show the power of automatic article submitter.

Video 2a, which was released last week, I described the overview of that experiment and explained how you can use article marketing to drive traffic directly to a sales page with the goal of selling a product. This is an important idea, because article marketing can be used to drive traffic to almost any location for almost any purpose.

As a matter of fact, I recently demonstrated this when I wrote numerous articles about the topic of chicken coops in an effort to show that you could drive traffic on almost any topic. The result was that I was able to get hundreds of visitors to a sales page selling an e-book about chicken coops. Unfortunately for me, that traffic did not convert very well to sales (but that is a whole another story about product selection, and we won't cover that here).

This video is video 2b, where I described an easy but effective way to do keyword research in any niche. You can use this keyword research to form the basis for topics for your articles to be used with Automatic Article Submitter.

Additionally, this video is my first attempt to send a high definition recording to YouTube. So, I will be very interested in hearing your feedback. Not only about the content in the video, but about the video quality itself. The HD result in the embeded player on the blog page is not very interesting, but the HD version looks pretty cool if you watch it over on the YouTube site in HD.

Enjoy a video 2b, and have a fantastic day.

A few days ago, I started a five-part series tutorial on the article marketing software called Automatic Article Submitter. In the first tutorial, I introduced the Automatic Article Submitter software and mentioned a bum marketing experiment that we would conduct as a part of the tutorial.

This video is part 2a of the tutorial. Since the explanation of the bum marketing experiment turned out to be too long, I have divided video two into two parts (a and b), each less than 10 minutes.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgoGrS1Lu3E

Automatic Article Submitter Tutorial #2a

As you will see in the video, I describe one method of bum marketing using article marketing to drive traffic. Obviously, I want to use article marketing because I intended to use the automatic article submitter software.

In the video, I also describe some fundamental considerations in selecting a product to promote, and I select the product that we will be promoting as part of this experiment.

When you are ready to get your copy of Automatic Article Submitter, be sure to go here for your purchase so you can take advantage of my exclusive bonus.

I hope you enjoy the video. As always, I am very interested in your feedback. please feel free to leave comments and questions below.

Thanks!

For the last several weeks I have been promising you that I would create a tutorial for Automatic Article Submitter (also called AAS). You will recall that previously I posted that this is the best article submitter that I have seen or ever used. In the past I have promoted other article submitters that were really good, but this one is just simply fantastic.

I have decided that the best way to do the tutorial is in a multi-part video series. I know that I personally can never find the time to sit down and watch a 45 minute video, so I plan to break the tutorial down into five or six episodes each less than 10 minutes.

In the videos, I plan to actually demonstrate the use of Automatic Article Submitter on an actual simple project. The video below is actually part one of the video series, and serves as the introduction.

The Experiment: Bum Marketing

The other day I finally got around to checking out the wealthy affiliate forum. I have always heard fantastic things about wealthy affiliate, and two people that I really admire her speak highly of it. So, when the one dollar deal came around, I had to check it out. One of the first things I saw in the forum was a post by Jennifer of PotPieGirl.com. I am a big fan of hers, so I read it.

She was asked the following question: what would you do, if you had to start Internet marketing with nothing but a computer and no money. Basically, her answer was that she would create content like crazy, and use bum marketing strategies like article marketing to make some seed money that she could then use to create websites.

Of course, if you've been following me, you know that I subscribe to a lot of those same ideas, and that just about the first internet marketing product I ever bought was article marketing domination. Bottom line, I am a big fan of article marketing.

AAS Demo and Bum Marketing Tutorial

So, I thought what better way to demonstrate automatic article submitter than to do a bum marketing demo. we will talk all about the bum marketing demo in video number two, but for now. Please enjoy video number one where I tell you why, article marketing is still important, and what automatic article submitter can do to set your article marketing campaigns on fire.

As far as the bum marketing experiment goes, the real goal is to demonstrate the software, not to teach bum marketing. So, I am not going to do very careful research. When I select the product, I am not going to be really careful keyword research, and I am not going to write fantastic articles that generate amazing results. But who knows, even doing a mediocre job, we might get lucky.

As always, I'd love to have your feedback about the video, this blog post, or the software, in the comments below. If you have tried Automatic Article Submitter and have some comments, I would love to hear them.

I hope you have a fantastic day.

Regards,

Well, that got your attention.

And it should. I am still playing around with the hot new article marketing software that I mentioned a few weeks ago -- Automatic Article Submitter. I know the developer pretty well (we are both moderators inside Coaching With Josh) and he has been implementing some of my suggestions. He is a great guy and a quality code writer -- which makes me like the software even more. Best of all, he implements user suggestions (sometimes the same day).

The bottom line -- I have been using this software for weeks, and I am more convinced than ever that Automatic Article Submitter (AAS) is a program that every internet marketer needs. In fact, it is the only software that I can really say that about (unless you count WordPress itself).

As I promised, I will be doing a full video review starting this week -- so consider this an introduction. But first, I want to talk to you about chicken coops.

Software That Can Pay For Itself The Same Day

The amazing thing is that software like this can pay for itself.

Now, your results will vary and I am not making any guarantees -- but if you want to drive traffic to your site, you need to pay attention here.

She was able to use the software to quickly submit the articles. The software was really easy to use, but we will cover that in the video to follow in the coming few days.

The results surprised me. After all, who really searched on the internet to buy an ebook on Building Chicken Coops? You have to admit, this is a stupid experiment. Or is it?

Here are the blog traffic stats from inside of WordPress (I have not even taken the time to set up GA yet).

Did You Sell Any Chickens?

OK -- traffic is great and all, but did you sell any Chickens? Obviously, you are not paying attention. I am not trying to sell chickens -- I am trying to sell a "how to build a chicken coop" eBook.

Anyway, no -- no sales yet. But look at this. I got 250 visits to my blog and 66 visits to the sales page (and still counting) for something crazy like chicken coops. Chicken Coops! Ha! And I was able to do it using only article marketing. And the best thing yet -- I am starting to see some limited search engine traffic!

I am expecting a 1% conversion rate. I am having so much fun that I am planning on doing some additional promotion and will let you know what happens with the chickens. Stay tuned.

Here are the ClickBank stats -- note that all of the hoplink traffic is from buildmychickencoop.com, and all the traffic to that site (with the exception of a few SERP hits) is from Article Marketing (using the amazing Automatic Article Submitter).

Article Marketing Still Works

So, the bottom line is that you can use Article Marketing to drive traffic to a web site on just about any topic -- including Chicken Coops. Heck, my chicken site is not even finished yet (there are some empty pages). But, Article Marketing is a lot of work -- unless you have software that you can use to do all the hard stuff. That is what Automatic Article Submitter is for.

More on that later this week.

Regards,

Mark

Well, until last week.

I am not ready for a full review yet, but I wanted to let you know that I am currently evaluating Automatic Article Submitter from Milan Kosanovic.

To be honest, I am blown away.

So far, I see at least four totally killer things that I have been looking for:

Advanced category handling (critical for article approval)

Support for a few top article directories that are missing from APR

Advanced spinning support that includes a thesaurus

A time-based article drip feature (APR guys introduced this in Article Drip Robot, which I have not tested.

This software is very exciting.

No hard sell here. I have a full review coming.

But, just in case you want to check it out, you can find Automatic Article Submitter here.

Thanks,
Mark
